Bournemouth have signed right-back Juanlu Sánchez from Sevilla in a deal worth up to £11.1m, the club confirmed on 6 August 2026. The transfer costs an initial £9.4m, with a further £1.7m in add-ons, according to BBC Sport.

Sánchez is 22 years old and already has more than 100 senior appearances for Sevilla's first team. He has played in the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and La Liga — Spain's top flight — for the Andalusian club. He also won an Olympic gold medal with Spain at the 2024 Paris Games, scoring the match-winning goal in the semi-final against Morocco before Spain beat France in the final.

For a player still early in his career, that is a lot of big-stage football. A right-back who can also operate further forward, Sánchez brings experience Bournemouth will need as they head into uncharted territory: the club will compete in the Europa League for the first time this coming season.

He is the third arrival of the summer window at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth had already signed defender Antonio Silva from Benfica for £25.7m and forward Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche for £25.7m. The spending reflects a squad overhaul under new manager Marco Rose, who is preparing for domestic and European competition.

Rose is not finished yet. According to BBC Sport, he is looking for a backup goalkeeper capable of challenging Djordje Petrovic, the first-choice keeper. That search continues as the window enters its final weeks.

There is movement on the way out as well. Sevilla have shown interest in Bournemouth striker Enes Unal, and the Premier League club are keen to sell. Unal also has options in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, so a return to Spain is not guaranteed. Meanwhile, senior sources at the Vitality Stadium have made clear that three younger players — Eli Junior Kroupi, Rayan and Alex Scott — are not for sale.

For Bournemouth fans, the Sánchez signing carries a particular thrill. Here is a player who scored in an Olympic semi-final, who has featured in the Champions League, and who is still only 22. He arrives at a club with European football on the horizon and a manager who is backing ambition with money.
