Vinicius Jr has agreed a new six-year contract with Real Madrid that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2032, according to BBC Sport.

The deal ends months of uncertainty around the 26-year-old Brazilian forward, who had entered the final 12 months of his previous contract. Real Madrid are set to announce the agreement by the end of the week.

Sources told BBC Sport that Vinicius has agreed improved terms, though the exact figures have not been officially confirmed. ESPN reported on 3 August that Madrid had offered a contract worth around €22 million ($25 million) per year — an increase on what the club had previously put on the table.

The timing matters. Vinicius was free to negotiate with other clubs from January 2027 under the final year of his old deal, which ran to 30 June 2027 after an extension signed in October 2023. Instead, Madrid have locked down one of their most important players for the back half of his prime and removed the looming distraction of a contract countdown.

Interest had been circling. Arsenal made an approach in recent weeks, per BBC Sport, while Saudi Arabia's interest in Vinicius was well documented — Reuters reported in February 2025 that Madrid were close to an extension amid that Saudi pursuit, and discussions had begun the previous January. Neither suitor could pry him away from the Spanish capital.

Vinicius himself stayed calm throughout. Speaking at a press conference on 6 April 2026, ahead of a Champions League quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich, he acknowledged having one year left on his contract but said he was relaxed because he had the confidence of club president Florentino Perez.

That composure now looks fully justified. The new contract runs through 2032, by which point Vinicius will be 32 and approaching two full decades in Madrid white, having joined the club as a teenager from Flamengo in 2018.

For Real Madrid, this is the outcome they wanted all along. Vinicius has become the creative heartbeat of the team — a left-sided winger with the pace and close control to turn a dead game alive in seconds. Tying him down long-term means the club's sporting project stays built around him rather than pivoting to a replacement.
