Peak, the co-op mountain-climbing game that sold more than 10 million copies in its first year, will receive its final major content update on 11 August. Titled The Final Ascent, the update adds two new late-game biomes: the Gloom, a ghostly-looking swamp, and the Citadel, a medieval fortress packed with traps like swinging flails. A trailer for the update also teases a monster that will hunt players during their climb. GameSpot

The two new biomes will cycle out the game's current Caldera and Kiln areas, keeping the total at four — the number players traverse on each run to the peak, according to Landfall's official page. Peak is a co-op climbing game, meaning players work together to scale a mountain, managing stamina and scouting routes as a team.

The update lands roughly two months after Peak celebrated its one-year anniversary in June. It is the last significant content drop the developers plan to release. In posts on Steam, developers Aggro Crab and Landfall Games have repeatedly referred to The Final Ascent as the final biome update, and they have made clear that Peak is not a live-service game — the kind of title sold and updated in seasons after launch. The frequency of updates and new content was always expected to slow in 2026. GameSpot

Peak's path to 10 million copies is unusual for a game that began as a game-jam project — a short, competitive prototyping event where developers build something playable in a weekend. Its under-US$8 price point helped it find a huge audience; the developer has argued that purchases at that level still feel like a US$5 impulse buy. The game even received a Fortnite collaboration that, according to the developers, cost more than Peak itself. GameSpot

Peak is currently available only on Windows PC, with the developers noting on their FAQ page that support for more platforms may come in the future. Landfall FAQ

Alongside titles like REPO and Landfall's own Content Warning, Peak helped popularise the co-op-focused subgenre sometimes called "friendslop" — inexpensive, chaotic games built around small groups of friends playing together and failing loudly. GameSpot

Both Aggro Crab and Landfall Games are now working on new, unannounced projects. For Peak's players, The Final Ascent is the last climb with new terrain — a send-off rather than a fresh start.
