MAC Cosmetics Launches Limited-Edition Jean-Michel Basquiat Makeup Collection

Jean-Michel Basquiat, who died in 1988 at 27, has a new brand collaboration: MAC Cosmetics. The limited-edition M·A·C x Basquiat collection launched direct-to-consumer and in select MAC stores on 6 August 2026, according to ARTnews ARTnews.
The six-piece line-up ranges from US$29 for loose powder pigments to US$120 for a special-edition brush set, WWD reported WWD. The collection includes lipstick, pigments and eye paint, according to MAC's product pages. The priciest item, the Basquiat Artist Brush Set, bundles four brushes designed for eyes, face and body, packaged as a collectible.
MAC described the partnership as one that "transforms makeup into a creative medium," Beauty Packaging reported Beauty Packaging. The language leans on the crossover appeal of a painter whose work has moved steadily from gallery walls into consumer goods — apparel, skateboards, watches — in the decades since his death.
For shoppers, that crossover means limited-edition product at familiar price points: the US$29 pigments and US$120 brush set sit within MAC's standard pricing for comparable items, with the Basquiat branding as the draw. For the Basquiat estate, it extends a pattern of licensing deals that keep the artist's imagery in front of audiences who may never set foot in a museum. Neither MAC nor the estate has disclosed sales projections for the collection.
The collection is available now through MAC's website and select retail locations, with the limited-edition tag suggesting it will not be restocked once current inventory sells through.
