Lydia Peckham has been cast in Nintendo and Sony's live-action The Legend of Zelda film, reuniting her with director Wes Ball, according to Deadline. Her role has not been revealed.

The news lands after the film already wrapped production in April, placing Peckham's addition in the category of a late-cycle casting announcement rather than a start-of-shooting reveal. The Zelda adaptation is slated for theatrical release on 7 May 2027, with Sony co-financing alongside Nintendo and handling distribution — a partnership that puts two of the biggest brands in entertainment and gaming behind a single title.

Peckham previously worked with Ball on the 2024 film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the latest entry in the long-running franchise. Before that role, she was best known for the live-action series Cowboy Bebop, the Netflix adaptation of the beloved anime. Her recent credits span studios and platforms: Nuremberg for Sony Pictures Classics, Robin Hood for MGM+ (the cable network's drama series, not the old Errol Flynn picture), and The Wrecking Crew, an action comedy for Prime Video. She also recently finished shooting Netflix's The Kennedys, in which she plays Rosemary Kennedy, sister of John F. Kennedy.

The Zelda film's ensemble has been taking shape with a roster that draws from across the global casting pool. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth stars as Link, the green-tunic hero at the centre of the game franchise. Bo Bragason plays Princess Zelda. Uli Latukefu takes on Ganondorf, the recurring villain of the series. Dichen Lachman plays Impa, Zelda's bodyguard and advisor. Yvonne Strahovski plays a queen. And Sam Neill — whose screen career stretches from Jurassic Park to Peaky Blinders — will appear in one of his final screen roles.

Wes Ball directs from a draft by T.S. Nowlin. The producers are Shigeru Miyamoto, the Nintendo designer who created the Zelda franchise in 1986, and Avi Arad, the veteran producer whose credits span Marvel's early film era through to Sony's recent gaming adaptations. The pairing signals Nintendo's continued push into film following the commercial success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023.

For Peckham, the Zelda role adds a major studio franchise to a career that has been building steadily across prestige film and streaming television. She is represented by CAA, Atlas Artists, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
