Vanessa Hudgens, Zach Cregger, Jim Cummings, Alexandra Shipp, Lana Condor and musician Miguel will receive top honours at the 2026 HollyShorts Film Festival, Deadline reported on August 7. The awards will be handed out at the festival's opening night ceremony on August 13 at the TCL Chinese Theatre and Ovation Hollywood complex in Los Angeles.

Hudgens takes the Luminary Award. Cregger, whose breakout horror hit "Barbarian" reshaped the genre's commercial expectations in 2022, receives the Visionary Award. Cummings collects the Auteur Award — his second HollyShorts trophy, a decade after his short "Thunder Road" won Best Short Narrative at the festival. That short later became the feature film that launched his directing career.

Alexandra Shipp will receive the Trailblazer Award, and her writing-and-directing debut short, "For Niko," screens on opening night. Lana Condor picks up the Rising Star Award and will attend the premiere of her short "Get Her Back!," produced by LuckyChap — the banner behind "Barbie" and "Saltburn." Miguel, the Grammy-winning R&B artist, earns the Music Visionary Award and will host a closing-night session on Sophia Stieglitz's documentary "Papá Melissa." Deadline

Now in its 22nd edition, HollyShorts runs August 13–23 and is an Oscar-qualifying festival — meaning winners in its top categories become eligible for Academy Award consideration. The festival will screen more than 400 films drawn from thousands of submissions worldwide, according to the official HollyShorts site. This year's lineup includes shorts featuring Renée Zellweger, Judi Dench, Michael Keaton, Martin Freeman, Jordan Peele and Michael Caine. Deadline

The festival has built a reputation as a launchpad. HollyShorts alumni were named in the 2026 BAFTA Film Award nominations, and 19 alumni films were added to the Oscars shortlist. The festival also made history at the 98th Annual Academy Awards, per an announcement dated March 26, 2026. Past winners have gone on to wider recognition: "Anuja" by Adam J. Graves won Best Live Action in 2024 and later earned an Oscar nomination, while "Wander to Wonder" by Nina Gantz took Best Animation the same year and was nominated for an Academy Award.

HollyShorts has been expanding its footprint beyond Los Angeles. The 3rd Annual HollyShorts London Film Festival is scheduled for November 12–15, 2026, and the 2nd Annual HollyShorts Dubai Film Festival runs January 14–17, 2027. The organisation has also partnered with Filmio Studios on an audience short-film discovery platform, announced May 13. The festival's 2026 jury was revealed through an exclusive Hollywood Reporter article by Lily Ford on July 24.

For a festival that started as a small showcase of short-form work, the 2026 edition signals how far the format has travelled. Six-hundred-second films share the marquee with names that fill multiplexes — and the line between the two has never felt thinner.
