Jason Clarke has closed a deal to join Supermax, an action-thriller from Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax, according to Deadline (Deadline).

Clarke is the second actor to board the project this week, following Jaafar Jackson. Details of his character remain under wraps.

The film pairs Will Smith and AnnaSophia Robb as two FBI agents investigating a seemingly impossible murder inside a maximum-security prison. David Gordon Green is directing from a script by David Weil and David J. Rosen. Producing are Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman of The Picture Company, alongside Smith and Adam Fishbach for Westbrook Studios. CAA Media Finance brokered the deal between Miramax and Amazon MGM for Clarke's role.

Amazon MGM will release Supermax on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, marking the studio's latest bet on a marquee-driven theatrical-style thriller built for its streaming audience rather than cinemas.

Clarke has built a career on intensity — from Zero Dark Thirty to Oppenheimer — and tends to slot naturally into the kind of morally shaded roles a prison-set thriller demands. Whether his part leans heroic or antagonistic is, for now, anyone's guess.

The project also continues a busy corridor for Amazon MGM, which has been stacking its Prime Video slate with name-led genre fare. Smith's involvement as both star and producer through Westbrook signals the streamer's appetite for films that can open loud on a platform, even without a traditional box-office weekend.

For Supermax, the pieces are now in place: a director with genre credentials in Green, a bankable lead in Smith, a rising co-star in Robb, and a supporting cast taking shape week by week. A production start date has not been announced.
