Taylor Swift Songs Silently Disappear From Trump-Linked TikTok Posts
Taylor Swift's 'August' has been stripped from a TikTok video posted by the Team Trump account, leaving the clip — which shows Donald and Melania Trump watching a fireworks display — playing to silence.
U.S. TikTok users first noticed the removal on Friday, 7 August. Where Swift's track once soundtracked the video, the platform now displays the message: 'This sound isn't available.' The post had overlaid the footage with the text: 'Mood because it's August and Donald Trump is your president.' Billboard reported the removal on 8 August.
It is not an isolated case. Another Swift song, the 2025 hit 'Father Figure,' also vanished from a Team Trump post originally shared on 6 November 2025. A separate video on the White House's official TikTok account that used Swift's song 'The Fate of Ophelia' has similarly gone silent. Billboard's report does not attribute the removals to a formal copyright claim or takedown notice, leaving the mechanism unclear.
Swift herself had not publicly commented on the removals at the time of Billboard's report.
The Team Trump account, which counts 14 million followers, has posted regularly since Trump won a second term. After the Swift audio disappeared from its posts, the account responded by uploading a live performance of the title track from Swift's 2012 album 'Red' — a move that read as provocation rather than retreat.
The tension between Trump and Swift is long-running. Trump has been critical of the singer since 2018, and the relationship worsened after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Trump later posted the words 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!' on his Truth Social platform.
Swift has previously taken formal action over political use of her music. In August 2024, her attorneys sent a notice alleging copyright infringement at campaign rallies, demanding that all related videos be removed and that a public disclaimer be issued.
The pattern extends beyond Swift. In December 2025, Sabrina Carpenter condemned the White House after it posted a TikTok video depicting law enforcement apprehending individuals in what appeared to be an Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrest montage, set to her music. Carpenter called the video 'evil and disgusting' and wrote: 'Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane…' ABC7 News reported her remarks on 2 December 2025; CNN followed on 6 December.
What gives the Swift removals a different texture is the silence around them. No takedown notice has been confirmed. No statement has been issued by Swift's team. The audio simply stopped playing — and the Trump account responded by posting more of her music.
