Sony in talks for Battlefield film with Michael B. Jordan and Christopher McQuarrie

Sony Pictures is in talks to bring the Battlefield video game to the big screen, with Michael B. Jordan attached to produce and potentially star and Christopher McQuarrie lined up to write, direct and produce, Deadline reported on 2 October 2026.
No plot details have been shared. The deal is not signed.
Jordan would produce through his company Outlier Society. McQuarrie would also produce alongside his regular collaborators. The wider producing team named so far includes Electronic Arts' Jesse Stern, Emerald Neon's Carter Swan, Vertigo's Roy Lee and Miri Yoon, and Outlier Society president Elizabeth Raposo.
For readers who have never played it, Battlefield is a first-person shooter series built around large-scale combat on land, at sea and in the air. The games centre on team-based multiplayer warfare, with settings that stretch from both world wars to Vietnam and the near future. The franchise began with Battlefield 1942 in 2002 and has since sold tens of millions of copies worldwide.
The road to Sony has been busy. In April, major studios and streamers were taking meetings on a Battlefield film with Jordan attached, according to The Hollywood Reporter. That interest then grew into a bidding contest involving Warner Bros. and Netflix, TheWrap reported on 30 April. Deadline credited TheWrap with first reporting Sony's involvement before confirming the current talks.
McQuarrie is best known as a writer and director of large action films. Jordan is known as an actor and producer, and here he is attached in both capacities. Neither role is confirmed until contracts close.
For fans, this means patience. A rights deal comes first. Casting, filming dates and a release date all follow much later.
