Google's New Pixel 11 Phones: What You Need to Know

Google announced its new Pixel 11 phone lineup at an event in New York City on August 12, 2026. There are four models: the regular Pixel 11, the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL (a larger version of the Pro), and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, which opens like a book to reveal a bigger screen. The regular Pixel 11 has a 6.3-inch screen with a display that can refresh up to 120 times per second, making scrolling and animations look smooth. Its main camera takes 48-megapixel photos, paired with a 13MP ultrawide lens for wide shots and a 10.8MP telephoto lens for 5x zoom. The front-facing camera is 10.5MP. It can record video in 4K at 60 frames per second. New photo features include Super Zoom up to 30x and Magic Capture. It comes in Indigo, Frost, Lemongrass, and Obsidian. (The Verge)
The Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL have better screens that can adjust their refresh rate as low as 1Hz to save battery when you're not moving much on screen. The Pro models also have upgraded cameras: a 50MP main, a 48MP ultrawide, and a 48MP telephoto with zoom up to 120x. The front camera is 42MP. They can record 8K video at 30 frames per second. Both support faster wired and wireless charging, the latest Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 standards, and an IP68 rating, meaning they can survive being submerged in water. The difference between the regular Pixel 11 and the Pro models is bigger than in past years. The base phone's extra cameras are much lower resolution than the Pro's, and the jump from 4K to 8K video is a big one. The Pro models also get the battery-saving screen technology, faster charging, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6 — things the base model doesn't have. For most people deciding between the two, the camera quality will probably be the deciding factor.
It's worth noting that Google put the same Tensor G6 chip in all four models, including the Fold. That means every Pixel 11 buyer gets the same AI features and camera processing software. Whether the smaller base model can handle heavy, sustained tasks as well as the Pro without overheating is something the spec sheets don't tell us.
The "3x stronger" claim for the Pro Fold is the kind of marketing language that deserves a closer look. Google didn't say what exactly is three times stronger, or how they measured it. Durability has been the biggest concern with foldable phones since the category began, and Google clearly knows that hinge and screen longevity are what hold back wider adoption. The claim sounds promising, but real-world testing and teardowns will tell us whether it holds up.
The broader takeaway is that Google is building its entire Pixel line around one chip. The Tensor G6's 50% computing boost and focus on on-device AI is the common thread across all four phones, while camera hardware and screen quality are what separate the higher-priced models from the base.
