A Creepshow Horror Game Is Coming to Steam This August
A new horror game based on Creepshow is launching on Steam in August 2026. The game is being made by PHL Games and published by DreadXP, with input from AMC Global Media, according to Games Press.
Creepshow is a horror franchise that started as a film in 1982, directed by George Romero and written by Stephen King. It came back as a TV series on the streaming platform Shudder from 2019 onward. Both the film and TV show told multiple separate horror stories in each installment — like an anthology series where each episode stands on its own. The new game is using that same approach: instead of one long story, it will have multiple short horror tales bundled together.
DreadXP is a publisher known for releasing horror games made by smaller studios. PHL Games is the team developing the actual game. AMC Global Media is the company that currently owns the Creepshow brand.
The advantage of breaking the game into separate stories is that each one can feel different. One story might be creepy and atmospheric, while another could be more action-focused or have a different tone entirely. The developers don't have to build one single world that connects everything — each story can exist on its own.
As of mid-June 2026, the developers haven't shared specific details about how many stories the game will include, how long it will take to play, or exactly what you'll do in each story. A trailer was released on June 12, 2026, and the Steam page confirms August as the release month, but the full breakdown hasn't been announced yet.
Horror games with separate stories are nothing new. The most famous example is The Dark Pictures series, made by a studio called Supermassive. But most horror games like this are made by bigger studios. Games from smaller independent publishers like DreadXP are less common.
Creepshow is part of a larger trend right now. Companies that own horror franchises are creating card games, board games, and video games — all at the same time — to reach different types of fans. This year, for example, Skybound Tabletop is releasing a Creepshow card game scheduled for September 2024. Games used to be an afterthought for movie and TV franchises, but now they're treated as a main way to bring stories to new audiences.
DreadXP has released other horror games before, including Dread Templar and the Dread X Collection. The Collections are similar to what the Creepshow game might be — they're made up of short horror games bundled together. It's not yet clear if the Creepshow game will work the same way, or if it will all come from a single studio.
August on Steam will be busy with many game releases, but horror games tend to sell well on PC, especially cheaper, independent ones. Many players enjoy horror games because they have stories that change based on your choices, and people like to replay them to see different endings. Right now, the game is only confirmed for PC — no console versions have been announced.
The game's success will depend on whether it captures what made Creepshow special in the first place. Fans have genuine memories of the original films and TV show, but that goodwill only goes so far if the game isn't well-made. More details should come in the coming months.
