You Can Now Order an Uber From Light's Super-Simple Phone

Light has added a Rideshare tool that lets the Light Phone III and the coming Light Flip order Uber and Lyft cars, The Verge reported on Sept. 15, 2026.

The tool works on the phone. You enter a pickup and drop-off place. You see the fare and wait time. You pick a trip type or a saved place. After booking, you see driver details and arrival time. You can call the driver.

Setup stays off the phone. You link accounts on Light's dashboard website, the same site used for other LightOS tools. Rides run through Tremp, a car-ordering service that works by text message. Tremp charges 10 percent with a $2 minimum. The first five rides are free if taken within 30 days of creating an account.

Light called Rideshare an early preview of the LightOS tool library SDK, a kit for adding small features to the phone. Light had earlier said full ridesharing tools were planned and named 1-800-USE-UBER as a short-term option, according to Light's LightOS tips post. The Light Phone III includes a GPS directions tool, as noted by Consumer Reports.

The broader context here is how the feature is delivered. Think of Tremp as a helper that orders the car for you. Light does not have to build and care for two separate full apps. The phone screen stays narrow. Address entry, fare checks and trip details stay inside the small tool. If the kit grows this way, more everyday services could be added as small tools, all managed through Light's website.

In my view, the fee shows the tradeoff. You pay a little extra to use Uber and Lyft on a phone with fewer controls. The practical question is reliability, who fixes problems, and how fast updates arrive when a helper sits between phone and driver. If Light keeps that link steady, very simple phones can stay useful in a world of apps. This release lets users feel if less still means clear.
