That matters because right now, full-body imaging forces doctors to choose between three flawed options. CT scans are fast but expose you to radiation. MRI machines are safe but take 20 to 30 minutes and can't be used if you have a pacemaker or certain metal implants. Traditional ultrasound has zero radiation and is portable, but technicians can only use it to examine one small area at a time — your heart, your liver — and the quality depends heavily on who's holding the probe.

What Makes This Technically Hard

A 60-second scan time is a marketing claim. What hospitals actually care about is clinical proof: published studies showing the machine catches real diseases, published studies showing it doesn't create false alarms, and FDA clearance saying it's safe and effective.
The diagnostic imaging industry is worth hundreds of billions of dollars globally, but pricing and hospital purchases are tied directly to regulatory approval and published evidence. The FDA's 510(k) approval process is the gate that needs to open before any U.S. hospital would install one of these machines in a workflow alongside their current CT and MRI equipment.
The Bigger Picture
Midjourney is a software company with genuine expertise in processing images. The companies currently dominating medical imaging — Siemens, GE, Philips, Canon — built their dominance over decades through clinical trials, regulatory approvals, and relationships with hospitals. Whether software-era companies can out-engineer those incumbents in a field that demands iron-clad evidence and regulatory sign-off is an open question.
For anyone paying attention to medical device companies, the dates that matter are: when Midjourney files for regulatory approval, whether they register any clinical trials, and whether the company discloses how much money they're pouring into this division. A fast scan time is noteworthy. Peer-reviewed accuracy data and an FDA-cleared indication for use are what determine success.
