Lego has announced a new X-Files building set with 1,500 pieces. It recreates Fox Mulder's basement office from the TV show and a forest scene with a flying saucer hovering above the ground. The set costs $200 and goes on sale for Lego Insiders (Lego's free membership program) on August 1, 2026, then to everyone else on August 4, 2026 Engadget.

The set comes with eight small figures called minifigures: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, the Cigarette-Smoking Man, The Flukeman, and a grey alien Engadget. That mix covers the main characters from the show's early seasons plus two of its more memorable creatures.

The build splits into two sections you can display separately. Mulder's office reproduces the messy basement workspace seen throughout the series, and it includes a small hidden joke: pencils stuck into the ceiling, a reference to a gag that appeared in certain episodes. The forest section with the UFO can be shown on its own, so you do not have to keep both parts together Engadget.

The set started as a fan submission through Lego Ideas, a program where Lego fans post their own set designs online. If a design gets enough votes from the community, Lego reviews it and may turn it into a real product. The fan who designed this one uses the username "WetWired" Lego Ideas. The design competition that led to the set was called "The X-Files: The Truth Is Out There" Lego Ideas.

Lego is also making a smaller bonus set showing Scully's lab, with a version of Scully wearing a lab coat. That bonus set comes free with purchase during the first week after launch Engadget. Offering a free gift for a limited time is a common Lego strategy to encourage people to order early, especially for Ideas sets that tend to sell quickly to both Lego collectors and fans of the show or movie involved.

Gillian Anderson, the actress who played Dana Scully in the original series and later revivals, appeared in a Lego unboxing video for the set Engadget. Her participation indicates that the studio and cast are on board with the product and its promotion, rather than this being a set produced without their involvement.

At $200 for 1,500 pieces, the set costs about 13 cents per piece, which falls within the normal range for Lego Ideas sets based on TV shows and movies. Past Lego Ideas sets have been based on shows like Seinfeld, Friends, and Home Alone, with similar price-per-piece ratios. With two display sections and eight minifigures, this set is among the more detailed and content-rich offerings in the Ideas line.

The choice of The X-Files as a Lego set also says something about who Lego is selling to. The show first aired in 1993, so its original audience is now in their forties and fifties. That age group is the main market for Lego's adult-focused sets. Over the past several years, Lego has been expanding its 18+ line — display-oriented sets aimed at adult builders with nostalgic ties to older shows and movies. The X-Files fits that strategy well, since the people who watched it growing up now have the income and shelf space for a set like this.

The set also includes characters like Mr. X, Alex Krycek, and The Flukeman, which are references that only dedicated fans of the show would recognize. These are not the most famous characters from the series. Including them shows that the designers wanted to reward people who watched the full run of the show, not just those who know Mulder and Scully from pop culture. The pencils-in-the-ceiling detail works the same way — it only means something if you remember the episodes where it appeared.

For collectors, the August launch gives the set several months on shelves before the holiday shopping season picks up. The one-week window for the free bonus set adds extra pressure to buy early.
