Luann de Lesseps Botches 'Jenny From the Block' Lyrics on Bravo, Apologises to J.Lo
Luann de Lesseps, best known from The Real Housewives of New York City, mixed up the lyrics to Jennifer Lopez's 2002 hit 'Jenny From the Block' on camera — and a producer had to correct her on the spot.
During an episode of the Bravo spin-off The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip, de Lesseps sang that J.Lo is "from the hood" rather than "from the Block." A producer on the show interjected: "Um, From the Block?" De Lesseps quickly apologised, saying "Oh, sorry!" according to Billboard.
In a subsequent interview with Entertainment Weekly, de Lesseps admitted she had simply forgotten the original lyrics. She explained that she lived in Europe during the 1990s and 2000s and expressed embarrassment over the slip, adding that she hoped Lopez was not upset with her.
'Jenny From the Block' was released in 2002 and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, the chart that tracks the most popular songs in the United States across all formats. The track arrived during Lopez's high-profile relationship with — and first engagement to — actor Ben Affleck, who also appears in the song's music video.
This is not the first time de Lesseps has leaned into the Lopez connection. On her official Instagram account in February 2020, she posted a message addressing Lopez directly: "Hey girl hey @jlo," followed by a playful rewrite of the song's chorus — "Don't be fooled by the statement necklaces that I got, I'm still, I'm still Lu from the block" — nodding to the original's famous opening lines.
For a reality television star whose brand has always traded on spontaneity, a flubbed lyric on a Bravo set is hardly a crisis. But de Lesseps' willingness to own the mistake on camera and then talk about it afterwards is the kind of unscripted moment these shows are built around — and the kind that travels well beyond the episode itself.
