Spider-Man Holds UK Box Office Crown as The Odyssey Nears $83 Million
Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day held the top spot at the UK and Ireland box office for a second straight week, taking £10.1 million ($13.6 million) in its sophomore frame, according to Variety. After 13 days in cinemas, the web-slinger's cumulative total in the market stands at $87.4 million. Universal's The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan, stayed close behind in second place during its fourth weekend, adding $4.8 million to reach a running total of $82.6 million. Deadline reported that the film has become Nolan's biggest picture in the UK/Ireland market — a notable benchmark for a film-maker whose previous titles include The Dark Knight trilogy and Oppenheimer. The same Deadline report noted that Spider-Man: Brand New Day became the second-fastest film ever to reach $1 billion at the international box office.
Paramount's animated Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie debuted in third with $2.2 million. Disney's Toy Story 5 landed fourth in its eighth week, adding $848,063 to push its cumulative total to $72.5 million — a healthy long run for a film that opened in late June. Universal's Minions & Monsters rounded out the top five in its sixth week, collecting $557,564 for a running total of $21.5 million.
Beyond the top five, the UK chart had room for a range of titles. Piece Of Magic Entertainment's Andre Rieu's 2026 Summer Concert: Viva Maastricht! claimed sixth place with a $671,742 debut — a strong showing for event cinema, the practice of beaming live or recorded performances into theatres. Disney's live-action Moana placed seventh in its fifth frame with $490,552, bringing its cume to $15.9 million. Studiocanal's horror entry Ice Cream Man opened in eighth with $414,256. Black Bear's comedy-drama The Invite took ninth in its sixth week, adding $136,039 for a $5.1 million total. Universal's Obsession closed out the top 10 in its thirteenth week, collecting $88,242 to lift its cume to $26.3 million.
The next frame brings a fresh wave of wide releases. Warner Bros. opens End Of Oak Street, a sci-fi survival drama starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. A24's Tony, a feature about chef Anthony Bourdain starring Dominic Sessa and Antonio Banderas, goes wide across the UK circuit. True Brit Entertainment releases Sunny Dancer, directed by George Jaques and starring Bella Ramsey. Trafalgar adds Lee Kirk's comedy Nimrods: A Green Day Comedy into more than 100 UK locations.
With Spider-Man and The Odyssey separated by less than $5 million in the UK/Ireland market, the coming frames will show whether Nolan's epic can close the gap or the web-slinger keeps its grip.
