Rocky Flintoff, aged 18, smashed his first senior professional century for Lancashire in a One-Day Cup match against Somerset at Taunton — and in doing so helped his county to their highest-ever total in the 50-over format.
Flintoff scored 123 from 76 balls, clearing the boundary seven times and finding it ten more with fours, as Lancashire piled up 443-6 — a List A record for the club. What makes this stand out is the sheer speed of the innings. A 65-ball hundred at any professional level demands timing, power and a cool head; doing it at 18, in only your second season of senior cricket, is something else. Flintoff's four first-class matches — the multi-day, Test-format equivalent — have all come in 2024, so his longer-format credentials are still being built. But in the 50-over game, he already looks entirely at home.
The name, of course, carries weight. His father Andrew Flintoff was England's great all-rounder of the 2005 Ashes summer — a fast bowler and destructive batter whose celebrity transcended the sport. Rocky has inherited the spotlight that comes with that surname. What he is doing with it, on the evidence at Taunton, is making it his own.
