Andrew Flintoff has stepped down as head coach of the England Lions, the national development team that sits one step below the senior Test side, less than two years after taking the role. The 48-year-old is set to take over as head coach of Big Bash League franchise Sydney Thunder in December 2026, having signed a two-year contract with the Australian club.

Flintoff was appointed to the Lions post in September 2024, with the England and Wales Cricket Board describing him as the standout candidate from a strong field. He was given a 12-month remit that subsequently extended into a second winter of touring.
