Jason Sudeikis Joins Mumford & Sons at Madison Square Garden to Sing the Ted Lasso Theme
Jason Sudeikis walked onto the Madison Square Garden stage on Tuesday night and sang the Ted Lasso theme song alongside Marcus Mumford, who co-wrote it for the show. The actor's surprise appearance came during Mumford & Sons' concert at the New York City venue, according to Rolling Stone.
Live Nation NYC's official TikTok account posted video of the moment, showing Sudeikis joining Mumford in front of the crowd to perform the piece — titled "Different Wanker" and credited to Mumford and composer Tom Howe, per NME. The theme was nominated for an Emmy in 2021, Rolling Stone reported.
This is not the first time Sudeikis has taken the Ted Lasso theme to a Mumford & Sons crowd. In August 2025, he and castmates from the show joined the band onstage in Kansas City to sing the same song, as reported by the Kansas City Star and USA Today. Sudeikis also appeared in character as Coach Lasso during the halftime performance of the 2026 World Cup Final in July, alongside Brendan Hunt, according to Rolling Stone.
The timing lines up with the character's return. Ted Lasso's fourth season arrived in August 2026, with Sudeikis reprising the title role. Returning cast members include Brett Goldstein, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift, while new additions this season feature Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely, Rolling Stone confirmed. The season four soundtrack spans Public Enemy and Fleetwood Mac among its selections, NME reported.
Marcus Mumford's connection to the show runs deeper than the theme. He co-writes the original score with Tom Howe and has released solo work, including 2020's You'll Never Walk Alone. Mumford & Sons, the band he fronts, released Hopeless Wanderer in 2013. Sudeikis's music-world connections extend beyond this collaboration: he starred in the Foo Fighters' music video for "Love Dies Young" in 2021, per Variety.
Mumford & Sons have two more Madison Square Garden dates scheduled for August 20 and 21, 2026, according to Live Nation NYC. Whether Sudeikis reappears for those nights is an open question. On Tuesday, the answer was yes — and the Garden crowd heard it.
