Jason Sudeikis says he "would like to" keep Ted Lasso going.

The star and co-creator discussed his hopes for a fifth season on Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso, according to Variety reporting published 18 October 2026. The podcast account had flagged on 17 October that the Sudeikis episode would arrive the next day. It is a wish, not an order.

The Season 4 finale aired earlier in October, Variety reported. Sudeikis said the path beyond that is still open. "We haven't started a writers' room or anything like that," he said. A writers' room, meaning the team that plots a season's stories together, has not been organised.

Sudeikis said he would assume Apple would continue the series if the main cast wanted to return. Apple is the show's home. That leaves the call with the ensemble. There is no formal renewal, meaning a confirmed pick-up for another season, while the cast and the platform have not finalised a plan.

He also spoke in personal terms about what the series did for him. He said Ted Lasso saved him from "some form of self-harm." He linked that difficult period to his split from actor and filmmaker Olivia Wilde in 2020.

He spoke warmly about Wilde's career. He said she loves what she does, is very good at it, and he is thrilled for her. Variety also noted that Wilde was served with child custody documents during an appearance at CinemaCon in 2022.

Some context comes from July 2021 interviews. Sudeikis told ABC News at the time that he did not have total clarity about the end of the relationship. He told the Los Angeles Times in a separate interview that month that he had hit rock bottom after the split. Those accounts pre-date his latest remarks by more than five years.

What makes this stand out is how directly he ties the series to getting through a hard spell. He credits the work with keeping him steady when his private life was under strain.

For fans, this means waiting. The lead actor favours more Ted Lasso. Until Apple announces a pick-up and a writers' room opens, Season 5 sits on the bubble, meaning a renewal is still undecided.
