Crimson Desert is heading to Switch 2 in 2027 — and Pearl Abyss wants more than a simple port
Pearl Abyss is bringing Crimson Desert to Nintendo Switch 2, targeting a release in the first half of 2027, according to the studio's latest earnings letter to shareholders VGC.
The South Korean developer — known for the MMO Black Desert — told investors it is preparing "DLC, strategic pricing and platform expansion" for the single-player action-RPG to ensure long-term success. The Switch 2 version has already reached a playable baseline, with the team running technical reviews on performance optimisation and quality standards.
Pearl Abyss was careful not to lock in a hard date. The company said it is difficult to confirm a definitive launch schedule, but that it is working toward the first half of 2027 as its target window VGC.
The studio is also making clear it does not view this as a routine port — a simple transfer of existing code to new hardware. Instead, Pearl Abyss said its core focus is preserving the game's signature graphics, action and open-world experience on the Switch 2, which has lower specifications than rival consoles like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. CEO Heo Jin-young first signalled interest in a Switch 2 version during a shareholder meeting in March, noting that internal research and development had already begun.
Crimson Desert launched earlier in 2026 and sold roughly 2.11 million copies during the second quarter, according to Pearl Abyss's 2Q26 earnings letter Pearl Abyss. Revenue did decline quarter-over-quarter, which makes the studio's push for new content and platforms a straightforward commercial move: keep the game selling past its launch window.
That post-launch plan extends beyond a single port. The first Crimson Desert DLC is scheduled for release before the end of 2026 Polygon. Pearl Abyss has also run a cross-game promotion tying Crimson Desert to its older title, Black Desert, with reward-claim and coupon-redemption windows stretching into late 2026 and early 2027 respectively.
For Switch 2 owners, the appeal is obvious: a visually ambitious open-world game arriving on Nintendo's handheld-console hybrid roughly a year after its initial release. For Pearl Abyss, the calculus is equally clear. Crimson Desert had a strong opening but is already slowing — fresh DLC, a new platform and pricing strategy are the tools the studio is betting on to extend its life.
