Pokémon Bank Closes in February 2027 — Move Your Old Pokémon or Lose Them
The Pokémon Company will shut down Pokémon Bank, its long-running storage app for the Nintendo 3DS, on 25 February 2027 at 7pm PST. After that moment, any Pokémon still sitting in the app cannot be transferred out and will disappear, the company warned in an official statement (Eurogamer, 13 August 2026).
That gives players roughly six months to act. The fix is straightforward: move everything to Pokémon Home, the newer storage service that launched in 2020 and works with Nintendo Switch games and their various ports. Once Pokémon are in Home, they are safe.
Pokémon Bank has had a remarkably long life. It launched in 2013 on the Nintendo 3DS, a handheld console that has since been discontinued, and was built to gather creatures from six different Pokémon titles — Black & White, Black & White 2, X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Sun & Moon — into one cloud-style storage box. Even after Nintendo shut the 3DS online store in 2023, which delisted Pokémon Bank from new downloads, and even after all 3DS online play ended in 2024, The Pokémon Company kept the Bank's servers running so players could still retrieve their collections. The app itself became free to use once the 3DS eShop closed, according to Nintendo's support pages.
For anyone who has been holding on to a team from a decade ago, the clock is now ticking in a very specific way.
There is a new bridge coming, too. Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen — the 2026 ports of the classic Game Boy Advance remakes — will become linkable to Pokémon Home starting in October 2026. That means players who pick up those ports can funnel those Pokémon into the same modern storage space before the Bank deadline arrives.
The FireRed and LeafGreen connectivity has also sparked speculation that Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald ports could launch around the same time, given that those three titles are the other half of the same generation. Nothing official has been announced on that front, though, and for now it remains fan speculation rather than confirmed news.
What it comes down to is a familiar story in games: an older platform's services winding down, and a hard cutoff after which digital things simply stop existing. Pokémon Bank has been free, functional and quietly indispensable for players with deep Pokémon histories. On 25 February 2027, that changes. If you have Pokémon stored there, the message is simple: move them to Pokémon Home before that date, or they are gone for good.
