Pokémon Unite Will Shut Down on 23 March 2027
The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon Unite is shutting down. Video Games Chronicle reports that service ends on 23 March 2027 at 00:00 UTC, on both the Nintendo Switch and mobile versions.
Pokémon Unite is a free-to-play game, which means anyone can download it without paying upfront. It is a 5v5 battle arena game, where two teams of five players compete in matches. It came out in July 2021 on Switch, iOS and Android. The game was developed by TiMi. Service for the Switch version began on 21 July 2021.
The shutdown affects the game's spending options too. Sales of Aeos Gems, the in-game currency players buy with real money, have stopped. Players will not be refunded for any Aeos Gems they already hold. They can keep spending them until the game ends.
Unite Club, a premium membership paid monthly, is also closed to new sign-ups. Existing members have had automatic renewal payments turned off. They can keep using membership features until their current billing period runs out.
There is one more update before the end. A new version of the game arrives on 12 November with a special event and a Library feature. The Library lets players look back at certain records and in-game content. Players who download the 12 November update and complete the required library data download before shutdown can still use it after service ends.
The Pokémon Unite Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo competitive tournament will go ahead as previously announced.
The game has ended in one part of Europe already. Service in Belgium and the Netherlands closed on 30 November 2025, after GamesIndustry.biz reported the plan in September 2024.
For players, the practical points are the dates. The game stays playable until 23 March 2027. Any gems or membership time already paid for can be used until then, and the 12 November update is the step to take if you want to keep access to the Library afterwards.
