Amy Sedaris Joins Ben Stiller and Benicio Del Toro in Apple TV Comedy 'Protective Custody'
Amy Sedaris has signed on to star opposite Ben Stiller and Benicio Del Toro in Protective Custody, a comedy series heading to Apple TV, according to Deadline.
The series follows a disgraced financier accused of massive fraud who lands in protective custody — a form of imprisonment where inmates are separated from the general prison population for their own safety. Inside, he must navigate prison politics, salvage his reputation, and face the consequences of his actions while awaiting trial. No details about Sedaris' specific role have been announced.
Deadline first reported the Protective Custody project in May 2026. The series is co-written, co-showrun and executive produced by Mike Judge, Steve Hely and Dave King, with Judge also attached to direct. Judge is the creator behind Beavis and Butt-Head and King of the Hill; Hely and King have writing credits across comedies including Veep and The Office. Variety confirms the production details.
Apple Studios will produce. The executive producing bench is crowded: Ben Silverman, Howard Owens and Rodney Ferrell for Propagate Content; Stiller and John Lesher for Red Hour; Michael Rotenberg and Oly Obst for 3 Arts Entertainment; plus Nanette Burstein and Blair Breard.
Sedaris brings a deep comedy pedigree. She co-created and starred in Strangers with Candy, the cult Comedy Central series, and later hosted At Home with Amy Sedaris, a crafting and homemaking parody that earned her two Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Variety Sketch Series category. Her voice work includes BoJack Horseman, and her film credits span Elf, Jennifer's Body and Puss in Boots.
She has also become a familiar presence in Jon Favreau's projects, appearing in Chef, the live-action The Lion King, The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Sedaris will next appear in Favreau's Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series at Disney+. Her recent on-screen credits include Doctor Odyssey, Elsbeth and the Netflix romantic comedy Office Romance.
For Sedaris, Protective Custody adds another high-profile streaming project to a career that has moved fluidly between network comedy, premium cable, animation and film. For Apple TV, it continues a strategy of building comedy vehicles around established names — in this case, pairing Sedaris with Stiller and Del Toro under Judge's direction.
No release date or episode count has been announced. Sedaris is represented by CAA and attorney James Adams.
