Apple TV's Protective Custody Completes Cast With Five Final Additions

Apple TV's comedy Protective Custody has finalised its cast.
Pej Vahdat, Shawntay Dalon, Isaac Stephen Montgomery, Judd Goodstein and Andrew Mayer are the final five additions, according to Deadline. Their signings close the ensemble. The series stars Ben Stiller and Benicio Del Toro, who both also executive produce, meaning they help steer the show behind the camera as well as appear on screen.
The five newcomers will recur, meaning they will return across multiple episodes rather than appear in every instalment as part of the main line-up. They will do so alongside Janeane Garofalo, who is also set as a recurring player. That group sits around a core of series regulars, meaning actors contracted as the central cast. Amy Sedaris, Samson Kayo and Sonny Valicenti were previously announced in those full-time roles, placing them alongside Stiller and Del Toro.
The story centres on a disgraced financier accused of massive fraud. He is placed in protective custody while awaiting trial. In plain terms, that means police protection and a hidden location before his day in court. The wait for trial is where the series lives.
The show hails from Mike Judge, Steve Hely and Dave King. The trio co-wrote Protective Custody and share showrunning duties, meaning they lead the writers' room and oversee production day to day. All three are credited as executive producers. Judge will also direct, according to the same report.
For viewers, this means the shape of the show is now clear. The cast is now set. Two stars at the top, three regulars at the centre, and six recurring faces around them. That is the full company that will carry a story about one man with a ruined reputation and a lot of time to fill before trial.
