Ted Lasso Season 4 Delivers Apple TV's Biggest Launch Ever

Ted Lasso's return to the pitch broke Apple TV's all-time launch record. The Season 4 premiere drew 296.6 million minutes watched across August 4–5, 2026, per Nielsen data reported by Variety. That total outpaced every previous season of Ted Lasso and every other title on the platform, including Severance and Pluribus.
On August 5 alone — the day of the global debut — the series racked up more than 200 million of those minutes, making it the most-streamed program in the United States that day, according to Nielsen. Dividing the total viewing time by the episode's 42-minute runtime yields an estimated 7.1 million views. Nielsen measures streaming by tracking minutes watched across U.S. households on internet-connected TVs and devices.
The numbers arrive on the heels of a rollout that Apple backed heavily. The company hosted a world premiere event in July, a New York premiere on August 5, and sent the cast on a surprise appearance in Kansas City ahead of launch, per Apple TV press releases.
Season 4 picks up three years after the events of Season 3. Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, returns to Richmond to coach a second-division women's football team, according to the official logline. The ten-episode season releases weekly on Wednesdays, with the finale set for October 7, per Deadline.
Alongside Sudeikis, the returning cast includes Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift. New faces this season are Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely. Sudeikis developed the series with Bill Lawrence, Joe Kelly and Brendan Hunt, building on a character that originated from NBC Sports. The four share executive producer credits with Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, Bill Wrubel, Jack Burditt, Goldstein, Leann Bowen, Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer.
For a platform that has invested heavily in scripted originals since launching in 2019, a record-breaking opening signals how much of Apple TV's audience still rallies around Ted Lasso specifically. The show last aired a new episode in 2023, when Season 3 concluded what many assumed was the final run. Season 4's performance, measured in its first two days, puts those assumptions to rest in the clearest metric available — minutes on screen.
