Hull FC Land Two-Time World Cup Winner Daly Cherry-Evans for 2027 Super League Season
Hull FC have signed two-time Rugby League World Cup winner Daly Cherry-Evans on a one-year deal for the 2027 Betfred Super League season, the club announced on 13 August 2026 (Hull FC).
The 37-year-old half-back — the playmaking position that orchestrates a team's attack in rugby league — joins from NRL side Sydney Roosters, where he signed in November 2025 (BBC Sport). The move brings one of Australia's most decorated players to East Yorkshire for what will be his first taste of the British game.
Cherry-Evans won the NRL premiership — the Australian league's championship — in his debut season with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in 2011. He went on to become Manly's all-time highest appearance maker, pulling on the maroon and white 352 times, scoring 98 tries and kicking over 200 goals (BBC Sport). He holds the NRL record for the most drop-goals (the snapped, one-point kick taken in open play, often used to break deadlocks) and the most tries scored by a half-back in the competition's history.
At international level, Cherry-Evans represented Australia on 21 occasions, scoring five tries and winning World Cups in 2013 and 2021 with the Kangaroos. He is also a six-time State of Origin series winner with Queensland, the annual best-of-three contest between New South Wales and Queensland that ranks among the fierhest rivalries in sport.
Hull FC chief executive Richie Myler described the signing as "an enormous moment for Hull FC" and "bigger than simply signing an outstanding half-back" (Hull FC). The club's press release carried the headline "Hull FC Complete Landmark Signing Of Daly Cherry-Evans For 2027."
For a club of Hull FC's stature — one of the traditional giants of the British game, based in a city that lives and breathes rugby league — bringing in a player of Cherry-Evans's pedigree is a statement of intent.
