Tyler Duckworth, MTV 'The Challenge' Two-Time Champion, Dies at 44
Tyler Duckworth, a two-time champion on MTV's long-running competition series The Challenge and a cast member of The Real World: Key West, has died in North Dakota. He was 44.
His mother, Joni Duckworth, announced the death on Facebook, stating that the cause had yet to be determined. According to The Sun, Duckworth was found unresponsive in his bathroom and died on a Tuesday shortly before noon. Variety confirmed the news on 13 August 2026.
Duckworth first appeared on MTV screens in 2006, when The Real World: Key West — the network's flagship reality docuseries, placing strangers in a shared house for months of filming — aired its season. He went on to compete in six seasons of The Challenge, MTV's spin-off that pits reality alumni against one another in physical and endurance-based contests for cash prizes. His appearances spanned The Duel, The Gauntlet III, Cutthroat, Rivals, All Stars 2 in 2021, and All Stars 3 in 2022, as reported by Variety.
He won twice. Duckworth took the top prize on Cutthroat and again on Rivals, making him one of the show's repeat champions — a distinction only a fraction of contestants achieve across the franchise's multi-decade run.
His most recent public appearance was at a Challenge Mania fan event in Minneapolis on 31 July. He posted about the event on his Instagram account. Challenge Mania is a touring convention-style meet-and-greet series that brings former Challenge cast members together with fans across US cities.
Duckworth's television career began at a time when MTV's reality programming was among the most-watched on cable for young audiences, and his continued appearances on the All Stars seasons — a Paramount+ revival featuring returning fan-favourite competitors — kept him connected to the franchise and its audience nearly two decades after his debut.
