A new patch for Halo: Campaign Evolved will arrive between 17 and 21 August 2026, developer Halo Support confirmed, with five headline changes addressing a mission-blocking bug, enemy behaviour, and long-requested visual options. No fixed date within that window has been announced.

The standout fix targets Sergeant Johnson, the fan-favourite Marine sergeant whose role in certain missions could block forward progression when things went wrong. Players stuck behind a jammed Johnson encounter will finally get past it. The patch also improves how Jackals — the shield-carrying enemies — react to shots aimed at their hands and feet, making them stagger more reliably. Marines and Flood-infected Marines will now properly fire their Assault Rifles when the Magnified Skull is active (a Skull being an optional gameplay modifier players can toggle on for extra challenge or variety).

Beyond combat fixes, the update adds two visual toggles players have asked for: the ability to turn off Chromatic Aberration (a lens effect that shifts colours at screen edges) and Film Grain (an overlay mimicking old movie stock). General stability improvements across multiple platforms round out the five changes, which Halo Support outlined in a tweet.

One catch: deploying the patch will invalidate any mid-mission save data. Players partway through a level when the update hits will need to restart that mission from the beginning, though completed missions and overall campaign progress should remain intact.

This is the second notable update for Halo: Campaign Evolved in recent weeks. A 29 July 2026 patch brought stability enhancements and adjustments to multiple enemy AI behaviours, according to official patch notes published on Halo's support site. The August patch builds on those changes with more targeted fixes.

For players who hit the Johnson bug or found Jackals frustratingly inconsistent, the incoming patch is a straightforward fix to known problems. For everyone else, the visual toggles are a quiet but welcome addition — giving players more control over how the game looks on their screen. Both options have been common requests since the game's launch.

Full patch notes will be available on Halo's support site at support.halowaypoint.com once the update goes live.
