JW Anderson, the namesake label of Dior creative director Jonathan Anderson, has denied reports of a collaboration with Zara. The label called the speculation "untrue" in a post on Instagram on Friday, 14 August 2026 (WWD).

The rumour had surfaced the day before, on Thursday, via the Instagram account DeuxMoi, which cited an anonymous source. No evidence beyond that anonymous tip accompanied the claim.

Scepticism came quickly. Online observers noted a potential conflict of interest: JW Anderson has produced cobranded collections with Uniqlo, Zara's high-street competitor, since 2017. Uniqlo and JW Anderson released their S/S 2026 collection in March, described by Uniqlo as bringing "a fresh dose of prep" to the wardrobe (Uniqlo). An ongoing partnership with one retailer made a simultaneous deal with its rival seem implausible to many who follow the industry.

JW Anderson's collaboration history is broad. Past partners include Topshop, Versus, Converse, A.P.C., Pleasing, Guinness and Diadora. The label has also released limited-edition bone china cups, saucers and reissued historical ceramics with Wedgwood, and recently a range of baskets handcrafted from British willow by the English sculptor Eddie Glew (WWD). For Autumn/Winter 2026, the label collaborated with GANNI on three waterproof ponchos, coordinating rain hats, a protective cover for the GANNI Bou bag, and Wellington boots (Office Magazine).

What gave the rumour enough plausibility to spread is Zara's recent track record of signing luxury designers. Inditex, the Spanish parent company of Zara, has built a roster of high-profile collaborators under the direction of chair Marta Ortega Perez, daughter of founder Amancio Ortega. John Galliano was named in March as the latest to join, following Stefano Pilati, Narciso Rodriguez, Samuel Ross and Ludovic de Saint Sernin. Galliano is set to spend the next two years creating new toiles — the prototype garments a designer cuts before a collection goes into production — inspired by pieces in the Zara archives. For Zara's 50th anniversary, the brand also collaborated with Narciso Rodriguez, Steven Meisel, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Anna Sui and Pieter Mulier (WWD).

One further thread connected the rumour to reality, however loosely. Many of Zara's recent designer collaborations have been facilitated by the communications firm Lucien Pagès & AIPR — the same firm that represents JW Anderson. That shared PR representation may explain how a guess gained traction before anyone checked with the label itself.

The denial settles the question for now. JW Anderson remains an Uniqlo partner, and Zara's next confirmed designer collaboration remains the two-year Galliano project.
