Courtney Love Says Her First Album Since 2010 Is Finished: 'It's Done'

Courtney Love has finished her first album in over a decade. In an Instagram video reported by Rolling Stone on 15 August 2026, Love said simply: "It's done." She added that she had put a great deal into the record, which, if released, would be her first solo album since 2004's America's Sweetheart. Her most recent full-length release was 2010's Nobody's Daughter, credited to her band Hole.
Love described the intervening years, and the making of this record, against the backdrop of a serious health crisis. She told Rolling Stone that in 2019 her body "exploded" during a mystery illness she did not specify in detail. She said she lost all her hair and her weight dropped to roughly 100 pounds. Doctors told her she was going to die, she said, but she did not believe them. She recovered and is now healthy.
That same year, Love moved from Los Angeles to London. The relocation came shortly after she had described Nobody's Daughter's commercial performance as "spectacularly humbling" — her words for the album that, as a Hole release, marked her last recorded output before this new project.
The finished album has drawn contributions from at least two named collaborators: Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe. Love first spoke about the record publicly in 2022, telling American Songwriter it was "not rock" but "a magnum opus." No release date, label, or title has been confirmed.
Love was also the subject of the documentary Antiheroine, directed by Edward Lovelace and James Hall, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The film adds to a period of renewed public attention around the singer, songwriter and actor, whose career has spanned Hole's four studio albums, a solo career, and screen roles including an award-winning turn in The People vs. Larry Flynt.
For fans, the most telling line may be the one about what comes next. Love said she wants to tour more than anything, telling Rolling Stone: "That's what keeps my soul and body happy." No tour dates have been announced. An album release date and further details have not yet been confirmed.
