Pixar's 'Ghost Market' Set for 2028 Theatrical Release After D23 Reveal

Pixar has dated its next original feature, Ghost Market, for theatrical release on 10 March 2028, according to Deadline. The title and date were revealed at Disney's D23 fan event, where Pixar chief content officer Pete Docter took the stage to introduce the project.
The film draws on Asian myths of supernatural bazaars — marketplaces where the living and the dead cross paths. Footage shown at D23 centred on a young boy named Kyle, whose family forces him to relocate to Hawaii. That premise, rooted in relocation and displacement, gives the ghost-market conceit its emotional entry point.
Ghost Market was not always a film. The project began life as a series before pivoting to a feature, a shift that moves it from Disney+ streaming into a theatrical release slot — a meaningful distinction for a studio that has oscillated between the two pipelines since the pandemic era. Disney has held 10 March 2028 as a Pixar-claimed date, staking the early-spring corridor the studio has used before.
The film was previously known under the title Ono Ghost Market. The shorter, punchier name surfaced at D23 alongside the first footage and the character introduction.
Pixar's recent slate has leaned heavily on franchises — sequels and prequels to properties like Toy Story, Inside Out, and Cars. An original concept landing a firm theatrical date, two years out, is a signal of Disney's confidence in the material and a marker of the studio's return to its original-feature rhythm after a stretch that sent several titles straight to streaming. D23, Disney's biennial fan convention, has become the company's preferred venue for such announcements, offering a built-in audience of devotees ready to amplify each reveal across social platforms.
For now, Ghost Market sits as the most distant confirmed date on Pixar's calendar — close enough to generate curiosity, far enough that story details, voice cast, and creative team credits remain largely under wraps.
