Frozen 3 First Look at D23: Anna and Kristoff's Wedding, a New Villain, and a Portal to a Wilder Frozen World

Anna is getting married. Disney unveiled the first footage from Frozen 3 on Friday night at its Entertainment Showcase inside the Honda Center during D23, the studio's biennial fan convention in Anaheim, California, and the centrepiece was a wedding — Anna and Kristoff, voiced by Kristen Bell and Jonathan Groff, finally tying the knot (Deadline).

Bell confirmed the nuptials from the stage herself. The footage showed Anna and Kristoff on their wedding night discovering Elsa on a dock, studying a mysterious stone that opens a portal to a snowy dimension (Deadline). Idina Menzel, who voices Elsa, teased that the world of Frozen has gotten "a little bit more mysterious" since Frozen 2, and described the new realm as "a frozen land more wild and dangerous than anything Elsa has ever created" (Deadline).

A new villain is entering the picture. The D23 footage introduced a woman with short black hair and a wicked cape — but her face was never revealed (Deadline). Disney is keeping that card face-down for now.

The returning cast is the one fans would expect. The first look confirms Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven are all back (ScreenRant). Josh Gad, Bell, and Menzel performed a song live on stage about Olaf's love interest, a character named Samantha (Deadline).

Frozen 3 is scheduled for release on 24 November 2027, placing it squarely in the Thanksgiving corridor that Disney has used for the franchise before — the same window where the first two films opened and went on to enormous business (Deadline). The Frozen franchise has grossed $2.76 billion worldwide across two films and won two Oscars (Deadline). A third instalment arriving nine years after Frozen 2 is a long gap by animation standards, but the footage suggests Disney is using it to widen the world rather than simply revisit it — a portal, an unexplored dimension, and an unnamed antagonist all point to an expansion of the mythology rather than a retread.
