Cancelled Star Wars Action RPG 'Magellan' Surfaces in Leaked Gameplay Footage
Gameplay footage from Star Wars: Magellan, a cancelled co-op action RPG that never reached the public, has appeared online — years after the project was shut down.
The footage was uploaded by a former developer on the project, according to MP1st, which first published the leak as an exclusive on 16 August 2026. Eurogamer corroborated the report the following day. The game's very existence and its cancellation had not been publicly known before the footage surfaced.
So what was Magellan? It was a loot-driven action RPG — the kind of game where defeated enemies drop weapons and gear in tiered rarity levels, encouraging players to grind for better equipment — set in the Star Wars universe and built for cooperative play. Each character had a dedicated skill set and a small selection of weapons. The footage shows a Jedi and a Mandalorian cutting through large groups of enemies, suggesting the game leaned into fast, character-driven combat across iconic Star Wars archetypes.
MP1st also reported that Magellan would have included an "NPC Bond" system, allowing players to build deeper relationships with certain story characters — a feature echoing the companion mechanics found in games like BioWare's RPGs. The title was intended for release on PC and consoles, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The studio behind it, Echtra Games, had a track record in exactly this genre. The team previously shipped Torchlight 3, a loot-focused action RPG, before being acquired by Zynga in 2021. Development of the then-unnamed Star Wars action RPG began that same year under the Echtra banner. Zynga — a publisher best known for mobile and casual titles — had positioned the acquisition as a step into more ambitious, cross-platform projects.
That ambition did not hold. Zynga closed Echtra Games in June 2025, ending development on Magellan. No public announcement of the game accompanied the closure; the project remained unannounced and unnamed until this month's leak made both its content and its cancellation public.
For Star Wars fans and RPG players, the footage lands as a glimpse of something that nearly was — a co-op loot game in a universe that, despite its breadth across film, television, and games, has not produced a title quite like this one. Whether another publisher or studio might revisit the concept is, for now, purely speculative. What the footage confirms is that the game existed, that it was far enough along to have playable characters and combat systems, and that it is no longer in development.
