Footage of a canceled Star Wars action-RPG surfaced online on 16 August 2026, giving the public its first look at a project that its publisher never officially announced. The game, developed under the codename Magellan, was a third-person shoot-and-loot title in the vein of Borderlands — set in a galaxy far, far away. MP1st broke the story after obtaining official development materials uploaded to a personal portfolio by a former developer at Echtra Games, the studio behind the project. MP1st kept the developer anonymous.

Magellan offered two playable classes: Jedi and Mandalorian. Jedi wielded lightsabers and Force abilities, while Mandalorians relied on jetpacks, flamethrowers and ranged weaponry. Both classes could deploy gadgets such as electric grenades and protection camp deployers. The core gameplay loop centred on defeating enemies to collect Booster Gear and opening reward chests — a structure familiar to anyone who has played a loot-driven action-RPG, where the cycle of fighting and upgrading equipment is the central draw.

Beyond combat, the game featured an NPC Bond System that would have let players build relationships with non-playable characters between fights against Stormtroopers, droids and heavy mechanised bosses. Work-in-progress missions included objectives like locating specific characters or warehouses, hacking signal networks and searching shipping containers. Development materials labelled a masked gunslinger character as "Triggerman" and a blue Twi'lek Jedi as "Cleric," according to MP1st. Character designs echoed those of Star Wars: Hunters, consistent with the collaboration between Echtra Games and NaturalMotion, which assisted on production. GameSpot reported that development reportedly began in 2021, and the game was targeting PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S before work ceased.

The studio behind Magellan carried serious pedigree. Echtra Games was founded by developers of the Diablo and Torchlight franchises — two of the most influential names in action-RPG history. Zynga, the mobile gaming company behind titles like FarmVille, acquired Echtra in 2021. NaturalMotion, another Zynga-owned studio, was brought in to assist on the project.

Echtra never shipped a single title between that acquisition and its closure. Zynga shut the studio down in June 2025, before it could announce its new game. The Star Wars RPG codenamed Magellan was never publicly confirmed by Zynga at any point during its development.

For fans of both Star Wars and loot-driven RPGs, the footage lands as a bittersweet glimpse. A Jedi-Mandalorian co-op shooter with Diablo pedigree and a galaxy full of droids to dismantle is the kind of pitch that writes itself — and now exists only as portfolio clips and development documents preserved by the press.
