FX Drops First Trailer for 'The Drop: A Snowfall Saga,' Premiering September 8
FX has released the first trailer for The Drop: A Snowfall Saga, the spinoff of its crime drama Snowfall, and the footage puts Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons squarely in 1990s Los Angeles. The series premieres Tuesday, September 8 at 9/8c on FX, with episodes streaming on Hulu — a dual release on linear cable and a streaming platform, the pattern FX uses for its biggest originals (The Hollywood Reporter; TV Insider).
Gail Bean returns as Wanda Bell and Isaiah John as Leon Simmons, the two characters carried over from Snowfall, which ran for six seasons on FX and ended in 2023. In The Drop, Wanda has gotten clean and sets her sights on the music business, working to assemble what the official logline calls a ragtag group of geniuses while navigating the overlap of music and street politics. Leon, meanwhile, has vowed to leave the streets behind and runs a free legal clinic in pursuit of atonement (The Hollywood Reporter).

The cast around Bean and John is deep. Asante Blackk plays Wanda's cousin Lamar Kinsey, and Peyton Alex Smith plays James Kinsey. Simmie "Buddy" Sims III appears as Artillery, a volatile local rapper. Brandon Mychal Smith plays Darryl "DG" Grant, a former street dealer turned label owner. The ensemble also includes Mykelti Williamson, Nicki Micheaux, Isidora Goreshter, Eric Balfour, Richard Portnow, Zaire Adams, Demetrius Grosse and Quincy Chad — the latter reprising his Snowfall role as Big Leon (The Hollywood Reporter).
