Elizabeth Chambers Returns for 'Toxic' Season 2 on Investigation Discovery This September
Investigation Discovery's true crime series Toxic returns for a second season on 15 September, with host Elizabeth Chambers back to examine relationships that turned dangerous (Variety).
New episodes air Tuesdays at 10 pm ET/PT on ID and stream weekly on HBO Max. The season opener, titled "Don't Go Home," covers the relationship between Jenn Holman and Jesse Winnick (Variety).
Chambers is an investigative journalist and survivor advocate who also happens to be the ex-wife of actor Armie Hammer. In February 2023, ID announced a development deal with Chambers to headline a series about toxic and traumatic relationships (Deadline). Season 1 premiered on 5 May 2025 (The Futon Critic). The show is produced for ID by Breaklight Pictures (Variety).
On camera, Chambers meets with victims to investigate how love curdles into something harmful — a premise that draws on her own experience. She has spoken publicly about unravelling the lies, red flags, and toxic dynamics of her own marriage (Investigation Discovery).
Season 2 covers three cases. One involves allegations of coercion and abuse of a preacher within the Independent Fundamentalist Baptist Church network. Another follows a woman whose marriage to a man twice her age descends into sexual violation. The third examines the murder of University of Virginia lacrosse player Yeardley Love (Variety).
The personal dimension of the show carries an extra layer of public interest. Chambers's ex-husband, Armie Hammer, faced sexual assault allegations in 2021 that sent him into what he has described as three years of industry exile.
