McSweeney Departs Northamptonshire for Australia A Duty as Promotion Push Reaches Crunch

The timing is delicate. Northamptonshire sit third in Division Two, just two points behind second-placed Kent in the race for promotion to the top tier of English first-class cricket. Only two sides go up. McSweeney, their leading Championship run-scorer this season with 589 runs at an average of just under 50, including three centuries and two half-centuries, will be available for the next three matches — against Lancashire, Kent and Durham — before departing.
