Amazon MGM Develops Anna Todd's 'House of Crowns' as Her First TV Series
Amazon MGM Studios is developing a television adaptation of Anna Todd's forthcoming romance novel House of Crowns, with the project in early development at the studio's UK division, Deadline reported on 18 August 2026.
The story is set at an elite Swiss boarding school where royalty and world leaders send their children. It follows a scholarship outsider and a gilded heiress with dangerous secrets who fall into a forbidden love. The novel itself does not yet have a publication date.
Elinor Cook has been tapped to adapt the book for television. Cook's earlier credits include Killing Eve, Sanctuary: A Witch's Tale and The Essex Serpent, and she is also working on Boys of Tommen, Amazon's adaptation of Chloe Walsh's book series. Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay of Ethea Entertainment will produce alongside Lena Roklin of Luber Roklin and Will Gould of Moonage Pictures. Todd herself will serve as executive producer — her first credit in television, though far from her first in adaptation.
Todd is a New York Times bestselling author whose After romance series has sold over 12 million copies worldwide in 35 languages. She served as writer and producer on the five After films, which grossed a combined $170 million at the worldwide box office and later topped Netflix's viewing charts. Her recent producing credits include the Colleen Hoover adaptation Regretting You and Prime Video's The Last Sunrise, a romantic drama starring Maia Reficco and Fernando Lindez that premieres 26 August.
Amazon MGM is also eyeing a sequel to The Last Sunrise, per Deadline reporting, with Anna Klassen returning as screenwriter. Todd is developing that story as a book trilogy.
The House of Crowns adaptation was bought preemptively — meaning the studio acquired the rights before the project was shopped to other buyers — by Nicole Clemens, VP and Head of International Originals at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, and Gemma Brandler, Scripted Commissioning at Amazon Studios. Representatives for Amazon MGM declined to comment.
Todd founded Frayed Pages Media in 2017 to develop intellectual property across film, television and publishing, and launched the Frayed Pages x Wattpad Books imprint in 2022. She is represented by Flavia Viotti of Bookcase Literary Agency and Eric Brown of Eric S. Brown Law PLLC. Cook is represented by Emily Hickman at The Agency UK and Gabby Lewis at Untitled.
For Todd's audience, the House of Crowns news means a second Amazon project is now moving through the pipeline alongside the Last Sunrise sequel. Neither has a release date. For the broader streaming landscape, it signals Amazon MGM's UK division continuing to invest in book-to-screen romance, a genre that has repeatedly delivered audience numbers on the platform.
