Prime Video brings Anna Todd's bestselling romance novel The Last Sunrise to screens globally on 26 August 2026, with Amazon MGM Studios already eyeing a follow-up film (Deadline).

The film centres on Oriah "Ry" Pera, a young dancer played by Maia Reficco, who manages a serious health condition — taking medication four times a day to prevent seizures. Eva Longoria plays her mother, Isolde, who whisks Ry away to the Spanish island of Majorca, where Isolde grew up, for a vacation that becomes the film's emotional backdrop. Fernando Lindez co-stars as Julian. Carlson Young directs, with Isom Innis composing the score (Deadline).

The soundtrack reads like a current-charts playlist. Bad Bunny featuring The Marias contributes "Otro Atardecer." Billie Eilish lends "Billie Bossa Nova." Sabrina Carpenter's "When Did You Get Hot?" makes the cut, and Karol G appears with "Tus Gafitas." Every track is a licensed placement, curated to match the story's bilingual, island-set romance (Deadline).

Behind the camera, the franchise machinery is already turning. Todd is planning a trilogy of books around the story adapted in the film, and Amazon MGM Studios is developing a sequel based on the second novel — which has not yet been published. Screenwriter Anna Klassen, who adapted the first book, is set to return for the second instalment (Deadline).

For fans, that means the world of The Last Sunrise is built to expand beyond a single film, and the studio's commitment to a sequel before the source novel hits shelves signals real confidence in the material.
