Jay Worthy Drops a 16-Bit Browser Game Ahead of George Clinton Collab Album 'Generation P'
Jay Worthy has released a free 16-bit video game called P of the Week, playable now at poftheweek.com, ahead of his collaborative album with George Clinton. The album, titled Generation P, is set for release on 28 August through the duo LNDN DRGS, which pairs Worthy with producer Sean House. Billboard
The game lets fans play as Worthy himself in a side-scrolling mash-up that he described, in an interview with Complex, as a blend of his two favourite games: Super Mario and Streets of Rage. Designer Kyle Zimmer built the game to feel like playing on an old CRT monitor — the bulky tube screens most households had before flat panels took over — rather than a modern retro imitation. Worthy, a West Coast MC originally from Vancouver, recorded parts of Generation P at George Clinton's 'Mothership' studio, as he discussed in an Instagram reel posted on 17 August. The album's guest list spans a wide stretch of hip-hop and funk-leaning artists: Snoop Dogg, Larry June, Ty Dolla $ign, Channel Tres, Terrace Martin, Curren$y, 03 Greedo, Eyedress, Del the Funky Homosapien, Aceyalone, Ab-Soul, YG, The Game, Kokane and Leven Kali all appear. George Clinton's grandson Zavier Croft, who serves as marketing manager and A&R — the role responsible for talent scouting and creative oversight on a project — also spoke to Complex about the game and the broader rollout.
