Scary Movie 6 Lands on Paramount+ September 3 After $230 Million Theatrical Run

Scary Movie 6 will begin streaming on Paramount+ on September 3, giving home audiences their first shot at the horror-comedy that pulled in more than $230 million at the global box office after a $54 million opening, according to Variety.

That streaming date closes a short window. As recently as July 20, the film was still playing only in theatres, with no Paramount+ premiere announced, Decider reported at the time. The September 3 debut now puts it squarely in front of viewers ahead of the Halloween season, when Paramount+ typically rolls out its "Peak Screaming" horror collection — a programming block the service launched for Halloween in September 2025, per Paramount Press Express.

The sixth Scary Movie reunites the Wayans family with the franchise for the first time since Scary Movie 2, which opened in 2001. Marlon Wayans returns as Shorty Meeks, Shawn Wayans as Ray, Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell, and Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks, Variety confirms. Faris and Hall had both sat out Scary Movie 5; their return brings back two of the series' most recognisable faces.

Michael Tiddes directed the film. The Wayans brothers had originally parted ways from the franchise amid disputes with Bob Weinstein, then the executive producer running Dimension Films. Marlon Wayans credited the "dismantling of the Weinstein regime," along with encouragement from his father, for bringing the family back after 25 years away, Variety reports.

Wayans coined the term "rebootquel" to describe what he and his brothers were building — a film that is simultaneously a sequel, a reboot, and a parody all at once. The script takes aim at cancel culture, safe spaces, and familiar horror conventions, with the brothers describing themselves as "equal opportunity offenders." References run from the Scream saga to recent horror hits including Sinners and Get Out, according to Variety.

For anyone wanting to catch up, all five previous Scary Movie films are already streaming on Paramount+, Paramount+ confirmed in June. The first three are also available on Pluto TV's BET Comedy Movies channel, per Paramount Press Express. That means a viewer can now marathon the entire franchise on a single service before the new entry arrives.
