Scary Movie 6 Heads to Paramount+ on September 3 After $230M Box Office Run
Scary Movie 6 will begin streaming on Paramount+ on September 3, according to Deadline — giving the franchise's reboot a 91-day theatrical-to-streaming window, the gap between a film's cinema release and its arrival on a subscription platform.
The Paramount/Miramax picture grossed over $230 million at the worldwide box office against a production budget of $30 million before marketing and distribution costs, according to Deadline. That figure pushed the Scary Movie franchise past $1 billion in global box office across all six films in June 2026, 26 years after the original opened in 2000.
The sixth instalment arrived 13 years after Scary Movie 5, and it brought the Wayans family back to the series that launched their names in horror parody. Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Craig Wayans and Keenan Ivory Wayans co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Alvarez. Michael Tiddes directed. The producers were Rick Alvarez, Craig Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenan Ivory Wayans.
Four key characters returned from the original run: Shorty (Marlon Wayans), Ray (Shawn Wayans), Brenda (Regina Hall) and Cindy (Anna Faris). The cast also brought back Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri and Chris Elliott, alongside newcomers including Kenan Thompson, Kim Wayans, Damon Wayans Jr., Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Cameron Scott Roberts, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Benny Zielke and Ruby Snowber.
The film opened to $105.5 million worldwide, a franchise record, according to Deadline. It was also the first pure R-rated comedy to cross $100 million at the box office since 2017's Girls Trip — a gap of nine years in a category that studios had largely walked away from for theatrical release.
As recently as July 20, 2026, the Paramount+ streaming date had not yet been announced, and the film was available only in cinemas, not yet on digital purchase or streaming, as Decider reported at the time.
The September 3 date means the film lands on Paramount+ roughly three months after its theatrical debut, a window that has become a standard cadence for Paramount's own releases on its subscription platform. For subscribers who missed the theatrical run — or who waited for the convenience of home viewing — the wait is nearly over.
Executive producers on the project include Jonathan Glickman, Thom Zadra, Alexandra Loewy, Marc Weinstock, Marsha L. Swinton and Neil H. Moritz. The franchise is based on characters created by Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Buddy Johnson, Phil Beauman, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer.
