Beck Releases 'Disappearing Act' Ahead of First Album in Seven Years, 'Ride Lonesome'
Beck has released "Disappearing Act," the latest single from his forthcoming album Ride Lonesome, arriving on September 18 via Capitol Records (Rolling Stone).
The album is Beck's first full-length of all-new material in seven years, since his GRAMMY-winning Hyperspace. Paste magazine reports it is his 15th studio album overall (Paste Magazine).
"Disappearing Act" sits midway through the 12-track record. Two earlier singles preceded it: "In the Night," released in July when the album was announced, and the title track "Ride Lonesome," which features Sierra Ferrell (Rolling Stone). Beck's official shop lists the opening run of the CD tracklist as "Ride Lonesome," "Run Away," "In the Night," "Failed Words," "Bleed," "Disappearing Act," "For Your Love," and "Slow Canyon" (Beck's Official Shop).
In an NPR interview, Beck said the material on Ride Lonesome connects to a pivotal period of loneliness in his life (Rolling Stone). He did not elaborate further in the reporting surrounding the single's release.
A 26-date North American tour will carry the new material on the road. It opens in Vancouver on September 16 — two days before the album's release — and closes with a Halloween show in Nashville on October 31 (Rolling Stone).
For fans, this means a sustained stretch of new Beck: three singles already out, a full album in September, and a tour running through the back half of autumn. The gap since Hyperspace was the longest between studio albums in his three-decade recording career, and the choice to build the rollout across multiple tracks and a named collaborator in Sierra Ferrell signals a record arrived at deliberately rather than rushed out to a deadline.
