Mattel's 1:1 Build-It-Yourself Original Xbox Replica Arrives This October for US$329.99

Mattel has opened preorders for a life-sized, build-it-yourself replica of the original Xbox console — a 1:1 scale model made of 3,509 building pieces, priced at US$329.99 and shipping in October for Xbox's 25th anniversary (GameSpot).
The set recreates the original Xbox console with working lights and sounds, plus a replica of the Duke — the famously oversized launch controller — whose buttons trigger four unique light and sound sequences. Three buildable diorama scenes slot directly into the console, themed around Halo: Combat Evolved, Psychonauts, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, each one paired with a set of one-inch NanoWorld minifigures.
Mattel announced the set on August 19, 2026 through its corporate newsroom, framing the release as a celebration of 25 years of Xbox (Mattel corporate newsroom). An Amazon retail listing pegs the release date to October 1, 2026 and lists a piece count of 3,512 at a price of US$329.99 — minor discrepancies from Mattel's own figures of 3,509 pieces and US$330, which this article uses as the authoritative numbers given they come from the most recently dated source.
The El Segundo, California-based toymaker — publicly traded on NASDAQ under the ticker MAT — already has form in this space. Its MEGA brand sells a roughly three-quarter-scale Xbox 360 replica building kit priced at US$162.00 through the Mattel Creations store, complete with working lights, a controller, a hard drive, a game disc, and a case (Mattel Creations). That earlier set used more than 1,300 pieces (The Verge). The new original Xbox model nearly triples that count and jumps to full life-size scale.
What makes the new set stand out is the interactivity baked into a plastic-brick model. Most building kits are display pieces once the last piece clicks into place. This one lights up, plays sounds, and hides miniature game scenes inside the console itself — the three dioramas are designed to slot into the body rather than sit separately on a shelf.
For Xbox fans, the choices run deeper than nostalgia. Halo: Combat Evolved was the console's launch title in November 2001 and the game that sold the system. Psychonauts and Morrowind followed in the early years, helping establish Xbox as a home for games the competition did not carry. Packing those three together inside the very console they ran on is a tidy capsule of the platform's first chapter.
Preorders are live now. The set ships in October — the same month Xbox turns 25.
