Xbox Turns 25: The $900 Translucent Green Series X Is Now Up for Preorder

Microsoft opened preorders on August 26, 2026 for a 25th-anniversary edition of the Xbox Series X — a translucent green console priced at US$899.99, making it the most expensive Xbox hardware the company has ever sold.
The console, officially called the Xbox Series X25, features a see-through "OG Green" shell styled after the original Xbox that launched in 2001, with an "Xbox 25" logo and an "X" mark on top that lights up green. Each unit is individually numbered, and the bundle includes a matching translucent green controller and a download code for Halo: Campaign Evolved (GameSpot).
The standard Xbox Series X retails for US$499.99, putting the anniversary edition at a US$400 premium. In the UK, the console is priced at £759.99 (Pure Xbox, The Verge).
Preorders opened first on August 26 for fans who had signed up to receive Xbox preorder emails. General preorders follow on August 27 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET. Customers are limited to one console each. The standalone anniversary controller, priced at US$80, is also available to preorder now and ships on October 20, 2026.
The console itself launches on November 13, 2026 — two days before Xbox's 25th anniversary on November 15 (Xbox Wire).
Microsoft first revealed the console and controller at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026, showing the translucent green design but holding back pricing and preorder dates until now (Xbox Wire).
The anniversary celebration extends well beyond the console. Xbox has introduced a "Designed for Xbox 25th Anniversary Collection" — a line of accessories and peripherals inspired by the original console's translucent green aesthetic (Xbox Wire). A 25th-anniversary badge is also available to display on Xbox profiles through the end of 2026.
Additional announcements tied to the anniversary include new official Xbox Gear, community-designed merchandise, FanFest tour dates, and a collaboration with IKEA on the YXSTABY collection of gaming room furniture. Xbox and Asus have also opened preorders for the ROG Xbox Ally X20 handheld device (Xbox Wire).
Xbox is not alone in marking a milestone with premium-priced hardware. Sony's PS5 Pro 30th anniversary limited edition bundle retailed for US$1,000 in 2024 — US$100 more than the Xbox Series X25 (GameSpot). Both companies are leaning on nostalgia for consoles that entered the market within five years of each other, offering collectors a chance to own a piece of gaming history at a price that reflects it.
