Anderson .Paak and Cordae will release their first joint album, Heavy Is the Crown, on October 23 via Apeshit, Mass Appeal and Empire. Cordae confirmed the news on his official Instagram account on August 19, 2026, writing: "our collab album drops 10/23" Pitchfork.
The cover art takes a cue from an unexpected source: the 2008 Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly comedy Step Brothers. The film, in which Ferrell and Reilly play grown stepbrothers forced to share a household, lends its absurdist buddy-comedy energy to the artwork — a visual signal that the two artists are framing this as a partnership with its own personality, not simply a guest-feature pile-up.
The pairing goes back several years. Anderson .Paak and Cordae first worked together on "RNP," a track from Cordae's 2019 debut album The Lost Boy. That song paired .Paak's soulful, funk-adjacent delivery with Cordae's lyrical, introspective rap style, and the chemistry was apparent enough that fans speculated about a fuller project. Heavy Is the Crown would make it official.
For Cordae, the album follows The Crossroads, released in 2024 Pitchfork. Anderson .Paak, meanwhile, has upcoming concert dates listed on his official website at MetLife on August 21 and August 26, 2026, suggesting a busy touring season alongside the album rollout.
What makes this stand out is the label configuration. A joint album arriving across three imprints — Apeshit, Mass Appeal and Empire — is unusual in an industry where most projects sit under a single label umbrella. It reflects the increasingly fluid nature of hip-hop and R&B releases, where artists assemble bespoke distribution and marketing arrangements on a per-project basis rather than committing to a fixed label deal.
