Spider-Man: Brand New Day Holds No. 1 as Insidious 6 and Mutiny Enter the Ring

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to keep its grip on the North American box-office crown for a fourth weekend, with Variety projecting an estimated $35 million to $40 million — ahead of new entries from the Insidious and Jason Statham franchises (Variety).
The Sony and Marvel Studios production, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, has already become the fourth Sony Spider-Man film to top the domestic chart, per The Hollywood Reporter. It is on track to surpass 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home as the No. 3 highest-grossing title ever in North America.
The numbers tell the story. Brand New Day opened to $360,091,572 domestically on July 31, 2026, across 4,487 theatres (Box Office Mojo). It delivered the biggest Tuesday in domestic box-office history on August 4, pulling $42 million and pushing the domestic total to $449.15 million (Box Office Pro). Its domestic gross has since reached $803,929,225 — 39.4% of a worldwide total that includes $1,236,000,000 from international markets (Box Office Mojo).
In its third weekend, the film expanded to 4,539 theatres — up 52 locations — and earned an estimated $19 million on Friday (down 56% from the prior Friday), $29.2 million on Saturday and $21.7 million on Sunday, per Deadline. Sunday grosses are studio estimates until Monday actuals arrive.
Chasing Spider-Man this weekend is Insidious: Out of the Further, the sixth entry in the horror franchise that began with 2011's Insidious. Sony is releasing the film across roughly 3,000 North American theatres, projecting an opening weekend around $23 million. It carries an $18 million production budget and hails from Screen Gems, Stage 6 Films and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with writer-director Jacob Chase at the helm. Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and franchise stalwart Lin Shaye star in a story about a young mother who can bring spirits back with her into the real world. Critics have given it a 65% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
For context, the previous instalment — 2023's Insidious: The Red Door — opened to $33 million domestically and reached $189 million worldwide. Out of the Further is tracking below that benchmark, though its modest budget keeps the math comfortable.
Lionsgate's Mutiny offers the action counter-programming. Jason Statham plays a former Marine framed for murder who sets out to clear his name. The film, directed by Jean-François Richet and produced by MadRiver Pictures and Punch Palace Productions, opens in roughly 2,700 North American locations and is tracking to a high single-digit opening against a $40 million production budget. Reviewers have given it a 49% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Statham's recent box-office record is mixed. Shelter opened to $5.5 million domestically, while A Working Man launched with $15.5 million in North America last year — both per The Hollywood Reporter.
Two further titles round out the weekend's new arrivals: The Magic Faraway Tree, led by Andrew Garfield, and Spa Weekend, starring Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann and Anna Faris.
What gives this frame its shape is the distance between the top and everything chasing it. Spider-Man has crossed $2 billion worldwide and is still adding theatres in week four. The new entries arrive with reasonable budgets and clear audience targets — a horror franchise for Insidious, a proven action star for Mutiny — but none are positioned to challenge for the top spot.
