Nashville Co-Star Jonathan Jackson Pays Tribute to Hayden Panettiere: 'She Had Such a Bright Light Within Her'
Jonathan Jackson, who starred alongside Hayden Panettiere for six seasons on ABC's Nashville, has shared an emotional Instagram tribute remembering the actress following her death at age 36.
Panettiere died on 16 August 2026 at Judson Mill Lofts, an apartment complex in Greenville, South Carolina. She was found unresponsive and pronounced dead despite advanced life support efforts. Her death was an apparent overdose, People reported. She was 36.
Jackson opened his tribute with the words: "I have no words to express the loss of our beloved Hayden." He described her as "a sensitive soul" who was "incredibly funny and witty," and wrote that she "had such a bright light within her" (The Hollywood Reporter; Instagram).
The two actors grew up in the entertainment industry, something Jackson said gave them a shared understanding. He wrote of "a silent knowing of how intense the struggles can be" (The Hollywood Reporter). He called Panettiere "an absolute joy to work with. Focused, spontaneous and brilliant," and said there was trust between them. He also wrote that it was "not possible to express the shock and grief that so many of us feel right now."
Fellow Nashville co-star Clare Bowen, who played Scarlett O'Connor on the series, posted her own tribute on Instagram — a poem set to images of the two together (The Hollywood Reporter).
