Queen Mary of Denmark was back at work on 18 August 2026, arriving for her first official engagement after the summer break at Momentet in Gentofte — wearing leopard print flats.

The Danish royal, who had spent what she called "a lovely summer with friends and family," spoke briefly to reporters before entering the building. "I have been looking forward to being back at work," she said, adding that she was happy to visit the children at Momentet. The Danish royal court's official calendar listed the visit at Mitchellsstræde 3, Gentofte, scheduled for 15:00 Danish Royal House.

Momentet, run by Diakonissestiftelsen — the Deaconess Foundation, a welfare organisation founded 160 years ago — provides housing, social programmes and professional care around the clock for young people. Queen Mary has served as patron of the foundation for years, and this visit sat squarely within that patronage rather than as a standalone event.

During the visit, Mary joined what the Danish Royal Court described as a "milestone meeting": a sit-down between a resident and staff to discuss concrete steps towards increased quality of life and self-sufficiency. She also toured the building and listened to a musical performance performed by residents. The court later shared photos on social media, noting that "hopes and dreams for the future" were among the topics the Queen discussed with the young people there Royal Central.

Momentet itself posted a warm thank-you on its Facebook page, praising the Queen's efforts to support young people in realising their hopes and dreams.

What caught the eye, beyond the substance of the visit, was the Queen's outfit. Mary paired smart jeans with a moccabrown blazer — described by the Danish magazine Billedbladet as carrying a "wild" detail — and finished the look with leopard print flats that drew immediate attention from the Danish press Billedbladet. Billedbladet reported the Queen was in "a sparkling mood" as she spoke about being back at work Billedbladet.

The return to royal duties comes ahead of a busier autumn. King Frederik and Queen Mary will travel to Belgium from 8 to 10 September for their first state visit as monarchs since ascending the throne Royal Central.

Mary has also already been back on the handball court this month, handing out medals to Denmark's European championship team and meeting national coach Nikolaj Jacobsen BT.

The summer holiday is officially over. The leopard print shoes were the tell.
